This week’s edition is bursting with excitement as we celebrate a historic moment for Ovid-Elsie athletics. Will Baese and Ava Juhas have both punched their tickets to the MHSAA State Finals at Ford Field—Baese as a runner-up at 120 lbs. and Juhas with a fourth-place finish at 115 lbs., making her the first female wrestler in Marauder history to reach 100 career wins. They’ll be joined by Laingsburg freshmen Dylan Phillips and Eli Stier, who also qualified for the State Finals after dominant performances at Regionals. In bowling, Brooke Pugsley claimed a Regional Championship and will compete at States alongside her brother Devyn. It’s a thrilling time for our local athletes!
We also bid a grateful farewell to Steve Pease, who retires from the Ovid Middlebury Fire Department after 29 years of dedicated service, including 14 years as Assistant Chief. His leadership and commitment to our community will be deeply missed. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the Ashley Hometown Heritage Fest planning meeting on March 5, and don’t miss the Laingsburg Lions Club’s Springtime Festival Raffle—tickets are on sale now for a chance to win a custom golf cart and more. With Board of Review meetings, library events, and Kindergarten enrollment underway, there’s plenty to keep you connected this March. Read on for full sports coverage, obituaries, and community announcements in this week’s complete issue.
