The Meridian Weekly – April 26, 2026

This week, we lead with a story that has our entire community buzzing with pride: Laingsburg’s Red Thunder Robotics team won big at the FIRST Robotics State Championship and is now headed to the World Championship in Houston! Between the Industrial Design award and that thrilling division title, these students have proven that hands-on STEM education pays real dividends. Meanwhile, the Ovid-Elsie Board of Education approved a new strategic plan and district calendar, and we’ve got an important letter to the editor regarding a proposed gravel pit on South Hollister Road that residents will want to keep on their radar.

Around town, spring is in full swing. Crystal Mitchell’s column this week is a delightful meditation on gardening, canning chicken thighs, and hunting for old-fashioned clothespins. The Elsie Library is wrapping up April with story time and an amino acids class (yes, really!), Ovid’s new farmers market is set to launch June 4, and morel mushroom hunters will appreciate our feature on tips from a five-time national champion. Sports are packed as always: O-E baseball stays undefeated in conference play, softball sweeps Corunna, and Laingsburg soccer shuts out Lansing Christian. As always, thank you for supporting your hometown paper, we’ll see you next week!
