The Meridian Weekly – February 8, 2026

In this week’s edition, we celebrate a dedicated public servant and highlight exciting local events. After 25 years of service, Assistant Chief Heath Arnett is retiring from the Elsie Area Fire Department. His career began with the Ovid-Middlebury Fire Department in 2001 and included roles at Elsie Area Fire Department from firefighter to Assistant Chief. We thank him for his commitment to keeping our community safe.

Looking ahead, there’s plenty to do in and around Ovid. Enjoy a sweet afternoon at the Chocolate Walk downtown on February 13th, or join the Laingsburg Lions Club for their popular free Spaghetti Dinner on the 17th. Sports fans can read about thrilling victories, including Ovid-Elsie’s Kendal Tokar scoring 32 points in a girls basketball win and the Laingsburg Wolfpack girls pulling off a stunning double-overtime victory against Fowler. Don’t forget to check out our full coverage of local games, community announcements, and heartfelt obituaries in this week’s issue.
