In this week’s edition, we shine a spotlight on two local heroes from the City of Ovid Police Department. Officer Robert Watson was named Employee of the Year for his meticulous investigative work that led to a felony conviction in a breaking and entering case, while Officer Ryan Vohwinkle received a Life-Saving Award for his swift CPR response that saved a community member’s life last April. Chief Lisa Rousseau praised both officers for their professionalism and dedication, noting their actions bring great credit to the department and the City of Ovid.
We also bring you important updates from the Village of Elsie Council meeting. The former Elsie High School redevelopment project has been paused due to state budget cuts, though developers remain committed to finding a path forward. On a brighter note, the village is exploring a nature trail loop at the park and working to renew its agreement with the Elsie District Library. Elsewhere in the paper, we celebrate our student Readers of the Month, highlight upcoming events like the 4th Annual Cabin Fever Break-Out Bazaar and the Laingsburg Library’s Dog Sled and Native Art Exhibit, and share full coverage of wrestling championships and basketball action from our local schools. Be sure to read on for all the community news, obituaries, and service directory listings.
