The Meridian Weekly – April 5, 2026

In this week’s edition, we celebrate Ashley teacher Dee Smith, who has been selected for the prestigious NASA LiftOff Summer Institute. Dee, a 1987 Ashley High School graduate who teaches physical education and science across all grade levels, will join educators from across the country this June to explore NASA’s Artemis program and learn how to bring space science back to her classroom. We also share news of a court ruling that dismissed a lawsuit against the City of Ovid and Police Chief Lisa Rousseau, with the judge affirming that police chiefs cannot be forced to alter records of an officer’s separation under state law.

We also welcome spring with a reminder from Greater Laingsburg Recycles to practice the 5 R’s, including a community cleanup on April 26 and an update on their food waste composting program. Looking ahead, don’t miss the Laingsburg American Legion’s “Night of Laughter” comedy show on April 11, the Ashley Country Christmas casino bus trip on April 25, and the 5th annual LALA Golf Outing on April 18. With Easter services, euchre league champions, and a heartfelt feature on the deep basketball legacy running through Laingsburg’s coaches and families, there’s plenty to inspire and connect our community this spring.
