Community spirit shines bright this week in The Meridian Weekly as fall festivals and charitable events take center stage across our region. The Elsie Area Food Pantry is the beneficiary of the Color Walk to End Hunger, scheduled for October 3rd at Elsie Park. Participants start in white and finish as a colorful work of art as they’re dusted with powder throughout the untimed, noncompetitive walkâperfect for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. Meanwhile, Ovid’s popular Apple Fest has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 26th (not the 19th as previously announced), featuring games, bounce houses, refreshments, and fresh apples from Wyrick’s Orchard at the Little League Field.
On the local government front, Ovid City Council welcomed Justin Nemier as the new Police Administrative Coordinator, who will assist Chief Rousseau and serve as City Code Enforcer. The council also addressed upcoming leaf pickup and discussed a pilot program to allow residents to drop off leaves and brush at a city location for those unable to wait for municipal pickup service. Additionally, the council approved $600 in funding for the rescheduled Apple Fest.
Don’t miss the cultural and historical offerings this week: The Helmsmen Quartet performs Southern Gospel music at Grove Bible Church on September 20th (doors at 5 p.m.), and the Elsie Library Historical Society meets Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:15 p.m. The Elsie Fall Festival on October 3rd will also feature library programs including story time and face painting, with proceeds benefiting the Elsie Food Pantry.
