In this week’s edition of The Meridian Weekly, we lead with a thrilling boys basketball story as the Laingsburg Wolfpack captured an MHSAA District Championship in dramatic fashion, defeating Bath 41-34 on their home floor. Behind a stifling team defense and 14 points from Kollin Bentley-Barr, the Wolves avenged an earlier loss and advanced to the Regional Semifinals—a remarkable turnaround for a team that was written off just weeks ago. Head coach Tim Beebe praised his seniors for their leadership and resilience, calling this one of the most inspiring teams he’s ever coached.
Elsewhere, we celebrate the Detroit Pistons Extreme Team’s visit to Leonard and E.E. Knight Elementary, where students kicked off March is Reading Month with high-flying fun and a powerful message about leadership and commitment. The Ovid-Elsie FFA also shone brightly, with multiple students advancing to state finals in leadership contests. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the Fenner Nature Center Maple Syrup Festival on March 21-22, the St. Johns Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt on April 4, and the ongoing LAFCU Write to Educate essay contest for Michigan seniors. From basketball championships to community service and academic opportunities, there’s plenty to celebrate this March.
