This week’s Meridian Weekly celebrates a major economic win for the region as the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a major expansion of its ultrafiltered milk processing facility in Ovid. The project, supported in part by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, will increase production of high-protein dairy ingredients and reinforces MMPA’s commitment to innovation and local agriculture. “This investment reflects our member-owners’ commitment to growing this cooperative,” said MMPA President & CEO Joe Diglio.
In local governance, the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting, recognized board members, and approved technology contracts worth over $76,000. Meanwhile, the Elsie United Methodist Church has opened as an official warming center during the cold snap, offering a safe place for community members. Sports remain a bright spot, with the Ovid-Elsie Middle School Competitive Cheer team taking first place at the Birch Run competition and several wrestlers and basketball teams securing strong wins. The community calendar reminds readers of upcoming events like the St. Cyril Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast and the next Laingsburg Lions free spaghetti dinner on February 17.
