This week’s Meridian Weekly highlights remarkable achievements from local residents on the national stage. Retired educator Dave Wyrick  was honored with the 2025 National Association of Agricultural Educators’ Lifetime Achievement Award for his 43 years of service, including 16 years as Michigan FFA Executive Secretary. Also, Tim Swanson of Elsie was elected as the 2026 Treasurer of the National Agricultural Aviation Association, recognizing his leadership in the agricultural aviation industry.

In local news, the Elsie Village Council meeting featured a tense discussion with Clinton County Sheriff officials over allegations of misconduct against the village police chief. The council also made its 2026 committee appointments. In education, Ovid-Elsie Area Schools launched a strategic planning initiative and earned an A+ credit rating from S&P Global for strong financial management. On the sports front, Laingsburg’s girls basketball team stayed atop the CMAC with a decisive win, while Ovid-Elsie wrestler Haley McClung placed 2nd at the Fowlerville Invitational. The community calendar remains full with upcoming events like the Laingsburg Lions free spaghetti dinner on January 20 and several Ashley and Valentine’s Day fundraisers.
