Wolfpack Volleyballers Eliminate Perry, Byron to Move to District Finals

LAINGSBURG —

Laingsburg turned back Perry 3-1 in a MHSAA Division 3 District volleyball quarterfinal here November 1.

Coach J.J. Strieff’s Wolfpack prevailed over the Ramblers, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20, setting up a meeting with Byron in the District semifinal on November 3.

Byron kept it interesting by winning the second set but eventually fell 3 sets to 1. A well-balanced attacking game lifted the Wolves to a 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23 victory.

Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Lorna Strieff, senior outside hitter with 14 digs, 7 kills, 3 blocks and 5 setting assists.; Bella Strieff, sophomore outside hitter with 15 kills; Ellie Baynes, junior middle hitter with 12 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks; and Brooke Putnam, senior libero with 19 digs.

“It was a really tough game,” coach Strieff said. “We struggled a little bit with serving, serve receive and a little bit of everything. Overall, I’m very proud of my team. They worked hard and showed great improvement from the beginning of the season.”

The Wolfpack earned a berth in last Friday’s district championship game against Dansville, which swept Bath 25-13, 25-22, 25-15 in November 3’s other semifinal. Laingsburg went 3-5 in the CMAC during the regular season, while Dansville was 5-3. Pewamo-Westphalia won the outright CMAC title at 8-0.
