Water Rate Increase for City Residents

The City of Ovid held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, February 8th. All council members were present. The approval of the agenda, minutes, reports including treasurer’s, police and DPW were approved.

Three resolutions were approved, one announcing the Board of Review dates, another concerning Board of Appeals by letter and the third regarding a water rate increase. The council voted to raise the water rate by .50 per 1,000 gallons (from $3.25 to $3.75) used for residents of the city and .75 per 1,000 gallons (from $4.88 to $5.63) used for non-residents. The rate increase will take effect for the billing cycle Jan 16th-Feb. 15th, due March 20, 2021. The council also adopted the UAP Plan (Utility Assistance Program), a program that will be offered to those res- idents who are two to three months behind on their water bills. There are currently 90 residents who will be getting a letter explaining the program.

The council voted to accept the bid from Dixon in the amount of $6,000 to inspect the water tower. The process will be done by a Remote Operated Vehicle that will be lowered inside the water tower for the inspection which elevates the draining of the tower. The last inspection was done in 2010. The council also accepted a bid from Peerless Mid-West to install computerized, variable pumps and an alternator system for wells 6 & 7 in the amount of $20,990.60. Two committee appointments were addressed for the Planning Commission. Samantha Salyer was appointed to replace a vacancy on the board. Pending receiving paperwork from a second vacancy, the council voted to place Estrella Starn also to the Discussions on the following items were held including: the purchasing of new radar guns for the police cars, update on the SAW Grant, which has a March 31, 2021 date for completion and a DNR Grant which is in the planning process for the cities Parks and Recreation and grounds.

The council went into Closed Session at 8:24pm to hear communication from the city’s attorney.
