Laingsburg Resident Recognized for Years of Service

LAINGSBURG – Jean Austin was presented a plaque of appreciation for her years of service to the community of Laingsburg as a Councilwoman and a volunteer for over 43 years on the Laingsburg Emergency Services committees and as a city board member. The City Council recognized Austin with a plaque and a “Thank you” with a round of applause for her devotion in making Laingsburg a safer place to live nd her commitment to the community.

Ms. Austin took her first oath of office on August 13, 1973, when Henrietta Sparkes, Clerk-Treasurer swore her in to serve on the City Council Board. Austin held a position on the Emergency Services Board and the Planning Commission. Her passion for the Ambulance Service began well over 30 years ago. She was a significant person in the protocol to combine the Ambulance Service and the Fire Authority merge in 2002. Ms. Austin served on that board since its inception.

Ms. Austin’s final statement to the committee which she “read in her daily devotional today,” that she is “Past her Best Buy date.” And “enjoyed every minute of serving her community.” The community appreciates her time and commitment in making a difference.
