O-E Girls Take on Montrose for Second Time in Six Games; Win Again 68-25

MONTROSE — The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders downed Montrose here February 7, in a 68-25 rout to stay unbeaten at 14-0 and 10-0 in the MMAC.

Caitlyn Walter paced the Lady Marauders with 14 points, 5 assists and 4 steals while Evalyn Cole (7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists) and Ava Bates (5 rebounds, 2 assists) each added 11 points and Hailee Campbell chipped in with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Braylon Byrnes (5 rebounds, 2 assists) and Rylee Lewis each added 5 points, while Braeden Tokar had 4 points, 5 steals, and 5 assists, Murphy Alexa 3 points, and Kaylee Hall, Katie Lorio and Izzy Loynes all had 2 points and Kiah Longoria 1 point before exiting the game with an injury early in the first
quarter.

“It was great to see all our kids get in and score tonight,” said head coach Ryan Cunningham. “We didn’t have a lot of preparation for this game so it was nice to see us execute well and deliver a conference win on the road.”

Ovid-Elsie led 25-4 after the first stanza and followed it up with a 17-11 second quarter to lead 42-15 at half. A 19-8 third quarter and a 7-2 fourth quarter finished off the Lady Rams.

Ovid-Elsie handed out 17 assists and 26 made baskets and held a 37-27 rebound advantage over Montrose. The Lady Marauders also collected 24 steals off of 29 Montrose turnovers.

Cunningham’s charges headed to LakeVille on February 9 and then to Durand on February 11 for a couple of league games.

O-E girls still unbeaten after 2nd game in three days

OTISVILLE-LAKEVILLE— Caitlyn Walter scored a career-high 29 points, making a school-record seven 3-pointers, as Ovid-Elsie improved to 15-0 by routing Otisville LakeVille 70-21 on February 9.

Walter shot 10 of 19 from the floor, including 7 of 14 from 3-point range. The senior guard added three steals and three assists. Ovid-Elsie (11-0 Mid-Michigan Activities Conference) finished with 12 3-pointers.

“It was our second game in three days and we played with a lot of poise and confidence,” Ovid-Elsie coach Ryan Cunningham said. “We shot the ball really well and defensively we were very sound.”

Ava Bates scored 12 points with five rebounds and four steals for the Marauders. Braeden Tokar added 11 points with seven rebounds and five steals.

LakeVille fell to 8-7 overall and 4-7 in league play.
