Submitted by Grace Czubachowski

The Shiawassee County Health Department has been notified by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services of a Shiawassee County resident who has tested positive for the COVID-19 Delta (B.1.617.2) variant.

The Delta variant surfaced in December 2020 in India and has spread rapidly throughout the world. “Due to the Delta variant being more contagious, county residents should remain vigilant in practicing public health mitigation measures.” states Health Officer, Larry Johnson. The Shiawassee County Health Department encourages residents that have not yet been vaccinated to do so.

Public health strategies to help slow the spread of COVID-19 include:

  • Getting vaccinated
  • Wearing a mask around others who have not yet been vaccinated, especially in crowded indoor and outdoor areas
  • Maintaining 6 feet from others who are not vaccinated
  • Washing your hands frequently with soap and water
  • Staying home when you feel ill, seek testing if you have COVID-19 symptoms
  • Ventilating indoor spaces

The Shiawassee County Health Department will be offering COVID-19 vaccination clinics every Tuesday in August from 1pm-4pm at the Shiawassee County Health Department. Residents can either schedule an appointment online at http://health.shiawassee.net under the Coronavirus Vaccination tab or walk-in between 1pm-4pm on Tuesday afternoons.
