A Few Limited Events Return to Oktoberfest in Owosso

Traditionally, Oktoberfest has occurred on the second weekend in October. Earlier this year, it was announced that although the event would not go on as planned, organizers would coordinate a few fun events for Saturday, October 10th.

From 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, October 10th, there will be a free pumpkin giveaway for children courtesy of Heidi O’Dea of Raymond James Wealth Management Group. Look for the big Oktoberfest inflatable archway on The Armory lawn or listen for the polka music! The Downtown Owosso Farmers Market will be in full swing during that same time.

A limited number of Oktoberfest 2020 Beer Steins will be available for purchase that day. The stein features a commemorative Covid/Oktoberfest logo and will sell for $20.00 each. The steins are sponsored by Agnew Sign Co of Owosso.

A virtual “Beer Run” 5K walk/run will take place from Friday, October 9th to Friday, October 16th. A virtual race is a fun run that can be run or walked from any location at any time. It can be completed outside on city sidewalks or streets, on a track or trail, or even on a treadmill. The Shiawassee Family YMCA will be offering a marked course at Camp Shiawassee in Bancroft for those that would like to take in the fall colors. Participants may complete the race anytime between October 9th and October 16th and are asked to share the experience on social media using #oktoberfestinowosso and #beer-run.

Participants do not need to submit their time. This is truly a fun run/walk and there is no “first” or “last” place. Everyone that registers receives the official, 2020 Beer Run dri-fit, long sleeve shirt and a medal! Participants may register at www.shiawasseechamber.org. The Beer Run is sponsored by Dort Financial Credit Union and WeatherVane Roofing of Owosso.
