The Meridian Weekly – August 2, 2026

We’re heading into a busy August here in Mid-Michigan, and this week’s edition of The Meridian Weekly is packed with news and events to help you plan your month. The big story is the Laingsburg Stadium renovation project, which has gained remarkable momentum with Phase One already underway and Phase Two—a complete new sound system—now fast-tracked thanks to an incredible week of fundraising. The three-phase project aims to raise over $350,000 for a safer, stronger facility for student-athletes, and the community is rallying behind it. Also this week, we’re spotlighting the Laingsburg All-School Reunion set for October 4, featuring the 11 Anchor Track Club athletes competing at the State Games of America, and the arrival of Father Vincent Oguejiofor as the new Parochial Administrator at St. Cyril Parish in Bannister and St. Peter Parish in Chesaning.

With the August primary election right around the corner, we’ve published all the local ballot proposals for Clinton and Shiawassee counties, including important millage requests for emergency services, roads, and the Briggs District Library. We also feature candidate profiles and opinions from readers on local issues. This week’s community events calendar is overflowing: don’t miss National Night Out in Elsie on August 4th, the St. Johns Mint Festival running August 7th-9th, On The Lash’s Irish concert at the St. Johns City Park on August 5th, and Fiddler Rodney Page performing at the Clarkson Barn Dance on August 8th. We hope to see you out and about, supporting our neighbors and enjoying the best our communities have to offer!
