This week’s edition of The Meridian Weekly is filled with heartwarming stories of connection and community progress. We are honored to share the remarkable legacy of Jason “Big A” Andersen, a beloved Laingsburg and Alpena athlete whose spirit lives on through the Big A Scholarship. Now in its second decade, the scholarship has awarded over $38,000 to students from both communities, and this year’s recipients, Paige Samp and Harper Strouse, are now teammates at Madonna University, a beautiful twist of fate that shows how Big A continues to bring people together.
In other news, we celebrate a major victory for the Elsie Area Fire Department, which has secured $910,000 in state funding to build a new permanent station. We also have updates from the Elsie Village Council, a reminder about the National Night Out block party on August 4, and full details on the Fairfield Township millage proposals for emergency services and roads. The Laingsburg Library Summerfest is July 25, the Elsie Library is wrapping up its summer reading programs, and we thank everyone who made Ovid Carriage Days a success. As always, thank you for making The Meridian Weekly part of your community.
